Blake Nelson "Shaa 'Koon" Lepine was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. He is of Tlingit, Han, Cree and Scottish descent. Tlingit is the culture that he primarily grew up with, and it is this culture’s art form that Blake has dedicated his time to.
Blake grew up with a big family, when the summer hit it was time for adventure, and he would spend his time out on the land learning about who he was becoming, and where he came from. Blake currently lives in Whitehorse, Yukon with his wife where he paints, carves and enjoys dancing as a full time performer for the Dakhka Khwaan Dancers, which is a traditional Tlingit dance group based in Whitehorse.
Blake has become a great knowledge keeper through harvesting and researching traditional medicines. He spends his time singing and dancing, speaking his Tlingit language, playing guitar, teaching, telling stories and spending time with his family on the land learning about who they are as indigenous people, and sharing his amazing culture with other.
